The first year of Mobilise-D has passed and we can now look back at a year filled with hard work that all paid off in the end. Like the rest of the world, Mobilise-D faced some unexpected challenges the last few months (#COVID19). However, we have prevailed, and we will continue as planned with only a slight delay that we hope to catch up throughout the second year of Mobilise-D.
Before continuing with our second year of Mobilise-D, we would like to put a foot to the ground and acknowledge all the great achievements within our consortium from the very first year. Not only that the specific protocols for the technical validation has been finalized and approved, but ethical approval has also been obtained. Algorithms have been tested on existing data and the results are encouraging. The EMA has given positive feedback on Mobilise-D’s first Briefing Book, mentioning us as leading example in early engagement with regulatory bodies for qualification advice in their Nature article “Digital technologies for medicines: shaping a framework for success” (May 12, 2020).
In July we will start the Technical Validation Study with patients, using all the additional safety considerations required due to the pandemic. Our five testing sites Sheffield, Newcastle, Kiel, Tel Aviv and Stuttgart have undergone the necessary training, equipment has been prepared and installed, and participants are expected to enroll soon. A data management platform is built and ready, and data collections tools are being developed to make the data collection as smooth as possible and complying with all the privacy and protection rules.
We are now releasing the Mobilise-D promotional video explaining how mobility is a vital sign and the benefits of being able to measure people’s mobility in a reliable way. Watch the video here:
This first year has gone as smoothly as one can expect under the circumstances. But we all know, behind all smooth processes there are people working tirelessly to make it that way!
We are already into the second year of Mobilise-D, and more news will follow in our website and social media. Stay tuned!
